1931A. A. Miller Climatol. v. 83 These winds have a foehn-like nature, their dry heat doing considerable damage to the more sensitive crops, especially tobacco. Such a wind is the ‘Koembang’ of Java. 1954E. D. Laborde tr. Robequain's Malaya, Indonesia, Borneo & Philippines ix. 187 At that time,..the lowlands between Cheribon and Tegal fairly often experience the drying effort of the south-east wind which, after crossing the Pembarisan Hills, becomes a foehn known as the kumbang. 1969M. Sukanto in H. Arakawa Climates N. & E. Asia iv. 222 Tjirebon and Tegal (Central Djawa) are also exposed to such a wind during the dry season. In this case, the wind flows down from the western part of Mount Slamet and blows in a northern and northeastern direction. This wind is called the Kumbang. |
