Lambrusco, n.

[a. It. lambrusco lit. ‘grape of the wild vine’, f. lambruscare to allow (a vine) to grow wild.]
A sparkling red wine produced in both dry and sweet varieties throughout the Emilia-Romagna region of N. Italy; the grape from which this wine is made. Also applied transf. to red or white wines of similar character produced elsewhere.
