The name of Paul Langerhans (1847–88), German anatomist, used attrib., in the possessive, and with of-adjunct to designate a kind of dendritic or stellate cell found in the epidermis and characterized by the presence of cytoplasmic granules (Langerhans granules). (See also islet of Langerhans s.v. islet 2 b).
