[a. Sw. Lapp, possibly in origin a term of contempt: cf. MHG. lappe simpleton. In med.L. the name was Lap(p)o (pl. Lap(p)ones), whence F. Lapon; see Lapponic.]
A. n. One of a nomadic people (called by themselves Sabme), inhabiting the north of Scandinavia.
