anencephalous, a. Phys.|ænɪnˈsɛfələs| [mod. f. Gr. ἀνεγκέϕαλ-ος in Galen (f. ἀν priv. + ἐγκέϕαλος brain, prop. adj. ‘within the head,’ f. ἐγ = ἐν in + κεϕαλή head) + -ous. Cf. Fr. anencéphale.] Brainless; wanting, or bereft of, the brain.
