Prefixed to Eng. words, forming compounds, usually hyphened (a) in sense ‘pertaining to the side (and another part)’, ‘pertaining to the side of (a specified structure)’, e.g. latero-anterior, latero-caudal, latero-cervical, latero-dorsal, latero-marginal, latero-nuchal, latero-posterior, latero-ventral adjs.; (b) ‘on or towards the side’, e.g. latero-flexion, latero-prone adj., latero-pulsion, latero-version.
