laudanosine Chem.|lɔːˈdænəʊsiːn| [ad. G. laudanosin (O. Hesse 1871, in Ber. d. Deut. Chem. Ges. IV. 696): see laudanine and -ose2).] Laudanine methyl ether, C21H27NO4, the dextrorotatory form of which occurs in opium and is a strong tetanic poison.

XXIV. 1065 Laudanosine..dissolves sparingly in cold, but easily in hot benzol; it forms colourless prisms which melt at 89°. 1900Chemist & Druggist LVII. 846/1 It is therefore probable that laudanosine is d-N-methyl-tetra-hydro-papaverine. 1951[see gnoscopine]. 1972Phytochemistry XI. 461 The major alkaloids of the above-ground parts of Argemone grandiflora..were found to be berberine, α-allocryptopine and protopine; (+)-laudanosine..and chelerythine were identified as minor alkaloids. |
