leghaemoglobin, n. Biochem.|ˌlɛghiːməʊˈgləʊbɪn| Also (U.S.) leghemoglobin. [f. legume n. + hæmoglobin n.] A red pigment in the root nodules of legumes whose haemoglobin-like component enables nitrogen-fixing bacteria to function.
