licuala|lɪkjʊˈwɑːlə| [mod.L. (C. P. Thunberg 1782, in Kungl. Svenska Vetenskapsakad. Handl. III. 284), f. Makassar lekowala.] A small palm tree of the genus so called, belonging to the family Palmaceæ, native to Malaysia, New Guinea, and northern Australia, and having fan-shaped leaves and prickly stalks.
