[OE. ᵹífre, corresp. to ON. gífr (found only in pl. witches, fiends), whence gífrliga savagely, in mod.Icel. exorbitantly, gífrligr in mod.Icel. immoderate, exorbitant. The Icel. form is represented by north. Engl. givour ‘greedy’, giverous (see yeverous).]
