Math., said of an apparatus for converting rectilinear into circular movement. ˈlineograph [see -graph], an instrument for drawing lines of a definite character (Cent. Dict.). ˌlineo-ˈlinear a. Math., linear with respect to each of two different variables or sets of variables. ˌlineo-ˈpolar a. Math., produced by taking the (n -1)-th polar of a locus with respect to a function of the nth order; so called because such a polar of a point is a line (Cent. Dict.).
