▪ I. zed Also 5–6 zedde. [a. F. zède (= It. zeta, † zette, Sp. zeta, zeda), ad. L. zēta, a. Gr. ζῆτα.] 1. Name of the letter Z. In quot. 1605 applied contemptuously to a person.
