lutein Chem.|ˈl(j)uːtɪɪn| Also 9 -ine. [f. L. lūte-um yolk of egg (neut. of lūteus yellow) + -in.] A substance of a deep yellow colour found in the yolk of eggs and the ovaries of animals.
