1. Private apartments or lodgings.
1638Sir T. Herbert Trav. 71 Who..leads him into the Mahael (or private lodging). 1662J. Davies tr. Mandelslo's Trav. 76 He went to the Mahael, or Queens Lodgings. 1793T. Maurice Ind. Antiq. I. 67 The mahls, the courts, the galleries, the rooms of state, are almost endless. 1799Wellington Suppl. Desp. 2. A summer house or palace.

3. A territorial division in India; a ward of a town. Also, a division of an estate or tract of land for farming or hunting purposes.
