▪ I. ‖ mandat|mɑ̃da| [a. F. mandat (see mandate n.).] 1. A paper money (in full mandat territorial) issued by the French Revolutionary Government from 1796 to 1797, replacing the assignat.
1858P. L. Simmonds Dict. Trade Products 238/2 Mandats, a national paper-money, issued..in France to replace the assignats which had become wretchedly depreciated. 1902J. R. Moreton-Macdonald in Carlyle French Revolution (ed. C. R. L.
