‖ matelote, n.|matlɔt| Also 8–9 matelotte, 9 matelot. [Fr., f. matelot sailor.] 1. A dish of fish served in a sauce of wine, onions and other seasoning, such as mushrooms, oysters, etc.; also, a dish of other viands similarly dressed.
