matipo N.Z.|ˈmætɪpəʊ| Also matapo. [Maori.] Either of two New Zealand evergreen trees, Pittosporum tenuifolium, of the family Pittosporaceæ, which is also called black matipo and bears clusters of purple flowers, or Myrsine australis, the red matipo (see mapau).
