The L. word passed into Teut. as OHG. mespila, nespila (MHG. mespel, mispel, nespel, mod.G. mispel), MDu. mispele (mod.Du. mispel), Sw., Da. mispel; the Slavonic and other eastern European langs. have forms chiefly adopted from Ger.]
