A hardwood timber obtained from Intsia bijuga or I. palembanica, of the family Leguminosæ, trees native to Malaysia and Indonesia; also, the tree itself.

XVII. 472/2 Good hard-wood timber is found in plenty, the best being the merabau, penak, rasok and chengal. 1935I. H. Burkill Dict. Econ.
