mercapturic, a. Chem.|mɜːkæpˈtjʊərɪk| [ad. G. bromphenyl)mercaptur(säure bromophenylmercapturic acid (Baumann & Preusse 1879, in Ber. d. Deut. Chem. Ges. XII. 807), f. mercapt(an mercaptan + ur(in urine n.1: see -ic.] mercapturic acid: any of the acids of the formula RSCH2CH(NH·CO·CH3)COOH (where R is an aryl radical), some of which are excreted in the urine, probably as detoxication products of aromatic compounds.
