metagenesis Biol.|mɛtəˈdʒɛnɪsɪs| [mod.L.: see meta- and genesis.] †1. Used by Owen (parthenogenesis, 1849) for: Alternation of generations (see alternation 1 b). Owen, however, included under this designation certain metamorphoses not now recognized as instances of alternation of generations. 2. Now used in more restricted sense (see quot.).
