metoprolol, n. Pharm.|mɪˈtɒprəlɒl| [f. meth + -o1 + propranolol n.] A beta-adrenergic blocking agent which is given orally (usually as the tartrate) and intravenously in the treatment of hypertension and angina; 1-isopropylamino-3-p-(2-methoxymethyl)phenoxypropan-2-ol, C15H25NO3 .
