milkwort|ˈmɪlkwɜːt| [f. milk n.1 + wort.] 1. Any plant of the genus Polygala, formerly supposed to increase the milk of nurses; esp. Polygala vulgaris, a common British plant bearing racemes of very irregular bright blue or sometimes pink or white flowers. bitter milkwort: the Polygala amara (Treas. Bot. 1866).
