minyulite Min.|mɪˈnjuːlaɪt| [f. the name of Minyulo Well, Dandaragan, W. Australia, near which the mineral was first found + -ite1.] A hydrated basic phosphate of potassium and aluminium occurring as colourless to white needles and fibres similar to wavellite.
1933Simpson & LeMesurier in Jrnl. R. Soc. Western Austral. XIX. 13 In examining the Minyulo outcrop there was seen to be a fibrous mineral, closely resembling wavellite, which occurred in small quantities in a hard phosphatic ironstone carrying partly altered apatite nodules... The mineral has been proved in the laboratory to be a well defined new species for which the authors suggest the name Minyulite. 1961Mineral. Abstr. XV. 210/2 Minyulite..occurs on Visean shales and phthanites in Belgium as fine silky fibers, ranging 60 to 300 µ, often grouped together in radiating rosettes (1 to 3 mm). |
