Miohippus|maɪəʊˈhɪpəs| [mod.L. (O. C. Marsh 1874, in Amer. Jrnl. Sci. 3rd Ser. VII. 249), f. miocene a. + Gr. ἵππος horse.] A small fossil horse of the genus once so called, known from North American remains of the Oligocene period, and now included in the genus Anchitherium.
