1. trans. To lay, place, or set wrongly; to misplace; to err in placing (a thing). Now rare.
1402Pol. Poems (Rolls) II. 97 For Alrede his clerke wrote his reson, that thou mysse layst, and dokkist it as the likist. 1591Sylvester Du Bartas i. i. 417 You have mis-cast in your Arithmetick, Mis-laid your Counters. 1601Bp.
