Moabite, n. and a.|ˈməʊəbaɪt| [ad. L. Mōabīta (Gr. Μωαβίτης, repr. Heb. mōābī), f. Moab: see -ite.] A. n. 1. One of the people of Moab, which bordered on the territory of the trans-Jordanic Israelites. In 16–17th c. occas. applied opprobriously to Roman Catholics.
