[ad. L. monopodius, a. Gr. *µονοπόδιος = µονόπους (-ποδ-), f. µόνο-ς mono- + πούς foot. Cf. F. monopode.]
1. A creature having only one foot; spec. one of a race of men fabled to have only one foot, with which they shaded themselves from the heat of the sun (see Pliny Nat. Hist. vii. ii). Also transf.
