† ˈmopsical, a. Obs. rare—1. [? f. mops1 or mopsy + -ical.] ? Like a spoiled child, pettish. Blount Glossogr. 1656–61 explains it as ‘that cannot see well’; connecting it with ‘our phrase mop-eyed’. The explanation has been copied in many later Dicts.
