† ˈmunec-lif Obs. [OE. munuclíf: see monk and life. Cf. ON. múnklifi and cotlif.] A monastery. In the OE. version of Bæda iv. iii. the word is used in the etymological sense ‘monastic life’ (orig. monastica vita).
