Mœritherium|mɪərɪˈθɪərɪəm| [mod.L. (C. W. Andrews 1902, in Verhandlungen V. Internat. Zool.-Congress vi. 528), f. Gr. Μοῖρις the name of a lake in Egypt + θηρίον wild beast.] An extinct proboscidean mammal of the genus so called, known from remains found in late Eocene beds of the province of Fayum in Upper Egypt.
