The name of Nikolai Viktorovich Nasanov or in the Fr. transliteration Nassanoff (1855–1939), Russian entomologist, used attrib. and in the possessive with reference to his work on social insects, as Nassanoff('s) gland, a gland on the back of the honey bee, between the sixth and seventh segments of the abdomen, which secretes a pheromone that attracts workers; Nassanoff pheromone, the pheromone secreted by the Nassanoff gland.
