nematocyst Zool.|ˈnɛmətəsɪst| [f. nemato- + cyst.] A small cell in the external layer of jelly-fishes and other cœlenterates, containing a thread capable of being ejected and of producing a stinging sensation; a lasso-cell or thread-cell.
