nerine Bot.|nɪˈraɪniː| Also nerina. [mod.L. (W. Herbert 1820, in Curtis's Bot. Mag. XLVII. 2124), f. L. Nērīnē (Virg. Ecl. vii. 37), Gr. νηρηίς a water nymph; see Nereid.] A South African bulbous plant of the genus so called, belonging to the family Amaryllidaceæ and including Nerine bowdenii, widely cultivated for its autumn-blooming pink flowers, and the Guernsey lily, Nerine sarniensis. Also attrib.
