[As n. ad. late L. propitiātōri-um (a 200 in Itala) place of atonement, also propitiation, rendering Gr. ἱλαστήριον (LXX and N.T.); n. use of neut. sing. of late L. propitiātōri-us adj. atoning, reconciling (whence the adj.
