Gr. νοµο-, combining form of νόµος law, occurring in a few words, as ˈnomocanon [med.Gr. νοµοκανών, -κάνονον], a collection of the canons of Church councils, together with civil laws relating to ecclesiastical matters. noˈmocracy, a system of government based on a legal code; the rule of law in a community. noˈmogenist, a believer in, or advocate of, nomogeny. noˈmogenous a., produced by, or resulting from, the operation of natural laws. noˈmogeny, the origination of life as a natural (opp. to miraculous) process. noˈmographer [Gr. νοµογράϕος], (a) a writer of laws, a legislator; (b) one who is skilled in nomography. noˈmography, (a) (see quot. 1731); (b) (see quot. 1830); (c) the expression of law in a written form. nomoˈlogical a., of or pertaining to nomology; also as n.; hence nomoˈlogically adv. noˈmologist, one who is interested or versed in nomology. noˈmology (see quots.). nomoˈtechnic, nomoˈtheism, noˈmothesy (see quots.).
