A bird of the genus Ocydromus (family Rallidæ), natives of New Zealand, incapable of flight, but swift runners. So ocydromine |ɒˈsɪdrəmaɪn| a., belonging to the subfamily Ocydrominæ, typified by the genus Ocydromus.
