off duty, off-duty, phr. (adv.) and a. [f. off prep., off- 4 b + duty.] Of a person: not engaged or occupied with one's normal work; of things, actions, etc.: of, pertaining to, or suggestive of this state. Hence ellipt. as n., time spent off duty.
