Appaloosa|æpəˈluːsə| Also (now mostly disused) Apaloochy, Apalousey, Appaloosie, Appalucy. [ad. Opelousa, place-name in Louisiana, or f. Palouse River, Idaho, U.S.A.: see D.A.] A breed of horse with white hair and dark patches of colour on the body, much used in former times by Indian peoples of western N. America.
