‖ Ostracion Ichth.|ɒˈstreɪsɪɒn| [a. mod.L. ostracion, a. Gr. ὀστράκιον, dim. of ὄστρακον hard shell.] A genus of fishes notable for the hard encasement of their bodies, consisting of juxtaposed hexagonal plates; a trunk-fish or coffer-fish.
