1828–40Berry Encycl. Herald. I. Dict., Overt, or Overture, terms applicable to the wings of birds, &c. when spread open..as if taking flight... It is, likewise, applied to inanimate things, as a purse overt, meaning an open purse.
2. Open to view or knowledge; patent, evident, apparent, plain, manifest; performed or carried out openly or publicly, unconcealed, not secret.
