1. An Oxford habit or trait; the characteristics, habits, or peculiarities of Oxford scholars.
1830Carlyle Misc., Richter (1857) IV. 138 note, Burschenism is not without its meaning more than Oxfordism or Cambridgeism. 1895Daily News 9 Jan. 6/3 The word ‘festive’ is good English, but to work the word very hard was, at one time an ‘Oxfordism’.
