oxyntic, a. Physiol.|ɒkˈsɪntɪk| [f. Gr. type *ὀξυντ-ος, verbal adj. from ὀξύν-ειν to sharpen, make acid, f. ὀξύ-ς sharp: see -ic.] Rendering acid, acidifying: applied to certain glands of the stomach, or to cells in them, supposed to produce the hydrochloric acid of the gastric juice.
