‖ palio|ˈpælɪəʊ| Also 7, 8 pallio. [a. It. palio, ad. L. pallium a covering, cover.] A traditional horse-race held every July and August in the Italian city of Siena; a similar horse-race held in other Italian towns; the cloth or banner of velvet, silk, etc., given as the prize for this race.
