palmitin Chem.|ˈpælmɪtɪn| [a. F. palmitine (Frémy 1840), f. as prec. + -ine, -in1.] A natural fat contained in palm-oil and many other animal and vegetable fats, obtained as a white solid, the tripalmitate of glyceryl, C3H5(C16H31O2)3. In pl. applied to the palmitates of glyceryl or glycerides of palmitic acid in general; the above being distinctively called tripalmitin.
