pandowdy U.S.|pænˈdaʊdɪ| [Of obscure origin; perh. a compound of pan n.1 Halliwell cites from Bp. Kennett's MS. pandoulde a custard (Somerset); but this is now unknown in Eng. dialects.] A kind of apple pudding, variously seasoned, but usually with molasses, and baked in a deep dish with or without a crust.
