paracrine, a. Physiol.|ˈpærəkriːn| [ad. G. parakrin, f. Gr. παρα- para-1 + κρίν-ειν to separate (cf. endocrine a. and n.).] Used of the action of a hormone whose effects are only local, and of the tissues which release and respond to such a hormone.
