‖ apterium Ornith.|æpˈtɪərɪəm| Pl. -ia. [mod.L. (Nitzsch 1833), f. Gr. ἀ- priv. (a- 14) + πτερόν feather.] Each of the featherless spaces on the skin of a bird intervening between the feathered tracts or pterylæ.
