Parana|pəˈrɑːnə| Also Paraná. The name of a river and a province in Brazil, used attrib., usu. in Parana pine, to designate a large evergreen tree, Araucaria angustifolia, of the family Pinaceæ, found in the high plateau region of south-western Brazil, Paraguay, and northern Argentina; also, the light-coloured, softwood timber obtained from this tree.
