A New Zealand name for the grey duck, Anas superciliosa, found in many islands of the South Pacific region.
1835W. Yate Acct. N.Z. (ed. 2) ii. 57 Parera, or Wild Duck—These birds exactly resemble the common English wild-duck. They are of a fine flavour. 1855R.
